Utica, NY (WIBX) - The local chapter of the Boy Scouts of America is conducting its annual membership drive.  Along with encouraging families to join the Boy Scouts, the troops are also rolling out their popcorn drive. Spokesperson, David Fitzgerald says the proceeds are put to good use.

He said, "You can join the scouts year round but Fall tends to be the most popular time when we have sign-ups. That leads us right into our popcorn sales, which is how units pay for their program. They sell popcorn and it helps them pay for their equipment, it helps them go to camp, take trips to Battle Cave Cove, Gettysburg, Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico, and all sorts of good things like that." He says the Boy Scouts have some of the most relevant youth programs available. He added that throughout the organizations history, the mission remains stead fast---enforcing fundamental life values in young men. To learn more about the popcorn drive or to join a local boy scout unit, visit, www.rtcbsa.org.
