Local community organizations and agencies have a message for Congress --  repeal sequestration.

John Furman, President of Central New York Citizens in Action, says the poor and vulnerable will be hurt the most by the mandatory spending cuts.

Furman says the Utica School District is expected to suffer a loss of over $574,000 in federal education assistance for disabled and disadvantaged students.

He says the full effects of the spending cuts will not be felt until later in the Spring when federal agencies begin to implement the cuts.

Furman says they're calling on the elected officials to support measures like closing tax loopholes that will help close the federal deficit.
