Local gas prices have jumped seven-cents in the past week and are at their highest level since the summer of 2015.

According to AAA Northeast, the average price in the Utica-Rome area is $2.85 a gallon.

AAA Regional General Manager Ed Welsh says demand is up and inventories of oil and gasoline down, leading to the price increase.

“Demand is at record levels for this time of year – more drivers are hitting the roads as warmer weather starts to spread across the country,” said Welsh.  “If this trend of high demand and declining supply continues, drivers are likely to see pump prices continue to climb as the country settles into spring.”

The average statewide price for regular unleaded is 12 cents above the national average of $2.76..

A year ago at this time, the average price in New York was 31 cents lower at $2.54 a gallon.
