Utica, NY (WIBX)- Gas prices have spiked in recent days and the end of a federal tax subsidy for ethanol is partially to blame.

AAA's Ed Welsh says the end of the subsidy adds about 3 to 4-cents to the cost of a gallon of gas by itself.

Welsh says a price increase for crude oil is also pushing gas prices higher.

Prices in the Utica-Rome market are up 7-cents over the last week to an average of $3.58 a gallon.
