Local businessman and owner of Joe Tahan’s Furniture, Joe Tahan has passed away at age 95.

Tahan passed on Wednesday after suffering from complications in the hospital over the past weekend.

Tahan, who owned stores in Rome, Yorkville and New Hartford was best remembered for his inspirational sayings that closed his commercials.

George Carpenter was Tahan's advertising agent for decades and can best be remembered for introducing Joe - and Al - in the now famous local commercials.

Tahan started out as a street peddler before opening his furniture stores, and before that earned a purple heart while serving in WWII.

Funeral arrangements are through Eannace Funeral Home with visitation held Sunday February 22, from 2-6 PM.

Carpenter will join First News with Keeler in the Morning on WIBX Friday morning at 7:45 a.m.
