Albany, NY (WIBX) - Three Herkimer County libraries have been awarded grants by the state.

Senator Jim Seward says the Ilion Public Library will get $45,000, the Little Falls Public Library has been awarded $279,000 and the Weller Library in Mohawk will receive nearly $22,000 in construction grants.

Seward says libraries are some of the most historic landmarks we have and are in need of repairs and upgrades to ensure their future viability and accessibility.

Meanwhile, the Mid-York Library System's Kirkland Town Library will be geting a $6,000 construction grant from the state.

Assemblywoman Claudia Tenney says the library on College Street in Clinton will use their grant to improve energy conservation and efficiency efforts, making the facility a "greener" community resource.

The grants are from $14 million in capital funds for public library construction provided in the 2010 state budget.
