The uncle of a 5-year-old Oneida boy is calling his nephew a hero following an accident in a rural area in Madison County that took the lives of his mother and sister.

The accident happened Sunday night when Ellen Caswell lost control of her vehicle and hit a utility pole. She and her 10-year-old daughter died at the scene and 5 year-old Kadyn wasn’t seriously injured and he was stranded in this rural area at the scene and was able to obtain his mother's cell phone.  What happened after that inspired his uncle, Canastota Police Chief Jim Zophy, to say Kadyn showed “more courage then me and more bravery than most” by calling for help.
