Local Restaurant Takes Over Rescue Mission Kitchen for Thanksgiving
Charlie Digristina and his staff at Charlie's Pizza and the popular food truck service "It's a Utica Thing" took over the kitchen at the Rescue Mission on Wednesday evening,
Thanksgiving Eve.
Digristina supplied the food and he and his staff cooked up an Italian dinner for patrons of the Mission.
"It's our way of giving back," said Digristina. "We do this every year for the Rescue Mission."
Residents and visitors of the Rescue Mission enjoyed baked ziti, salad, meatballs, chicken, sausage and peppers.
The Rescue Mission, according to their website, is a faith-based, nonprofit, multiple-service, charitable organization serving Utica and the Mohawk Valley.
The Mission serves individuals overcoming homelessness, abuse, addictions, and disabilities. They provide safe lodging, food, clothing, case management, counseling, advocacy, education, referrals, spiritual and other supportive services.
The Utica Rescue Mission has been serving the community since 1890.
A Thanksgiving feast will be served on Thanksgiving Day from 11 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.. It's free of charge.
