Local Vietnam Veteran Paul Fortin recently climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, Africa to support the Sitrin Health Care Center's Military Rehabilitation Program.

Paul Fortin, Boonville resident and Vietnam Veteran, recently undertook an expedition to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. Mount Kilimanjaro located in Tanzania, Africa is known as the tallest free-standing mountain in the world. In choosing to undertake the climb, Fortin asked friends, family and community members to donate $1.00 for every 1,000 feet that he ascended to the Boonville VFW Post 5538 team for Sitrin's Stars And Stripes Run~Walk. Fortin climbed more than 19,300 feet and successfully raised more than $7,000 for Sitrin's Military Rehabilitation Program.

The expedition to climb Mount Kilimanjaro began on February 9th and the team had successfully reached the summit and returned to the base of the mountain without incident by February 17th.
