Bob Joseph/WNBF News [file][/caption]Lockheed Martin is now an even larger force in the global market for military aircraft.

The company, that operates a plant in Owego, yesterday announced its deal to acquire Sikorsky Aircraft is complete.

Under the $9 billion acquisition, Sikorsky Aircraft is being re-branded as “Sikorsky, a Lockheed Martin Company.”

Lockheed is getting some tax benefits for the move, bringing the acquisition cost closer to 7 billion dollars.

The combined companies employ 126,000 workers world-wide and builds helicopters for all branches of the U.S. Military and fills contracts for governments around the world.

The acquisition is not going to bring additional jobs to the Owego or Salina plants in New York but is expected to be a boon for shareholders.
