MARKSVILLE, La. (AP) — The head of Louisiana's state police force says investigators have spent 12 hours examining forensics following a shooting by city marshals that left a 6-year-old boy dead and his father critically wounded.

Col. Mike Edmonson says authorities are now headed to the central Louisiana city of Marksville to speak with the marshals.

Avoyelles Parish Coroner Dr. L.J. Mayeux says the marshals were pursuing a vehicle driven by Chris Few around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday and fired at the vehicle as Few tried to flee.

Few's 6-year-old son Jeremy Mardis died from multiple gunshot wounds to the head and chest. He says Few was backing into the marshals when they fired. The boy, he says, was "caught in the line of fire" and killed.
