Two teachers at Destrehan High School in Kenner, Louisiana, have been arrested for allegedly having group sex with an underage student.

According to Kenner Police Chief Michael Glaser, Rachel Respess (age 24, above left) and Shelley Dufresne (age 32) were booked on charges of carnal knowledge of a juvenile, indecent behavior with a juvenile and contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile. Conviction on all counts could lead to up to 17-and-a-half years in prison.

The alleged encounter occurred after a football game on Friday, September 12. The male student in question, whose name has not been released due to his minor status, apparently boasted about the alleged ménage à trois to classmates at Destrehan, which led to the discovery by authorities and the subsequent arrests. The student, age 16, told police that the sex was consensual; the legal age for consent in Louisiana, however, is 17.

"If this was two male teachers and a female student, the community would be outraged," Chief Glaser said. "It should have the same outrage. ... No matter what sex the victim is, everyone should be outraged. You have an educator. Their responsibility is the safety and the education of children. ... They should have known better."

Dufresne has been a teacher for 10 years, having graduated from Destrehan High in 2000. She is married, with three children, and is the daughter of St. Charles Parish Judge Emile St. Pierre. Respess is in her second year as an English teacher at the DHS, from which she also graduated, in 2008.
