Clinton, NY (WIBX) - A ribbon cutting ceremony at LutheranCare marks the official opening of a new Resident Activities Room. The space was converted from a kitchen that served one of the nursing homes. Chief Executive Officer, Andrew Peterson, says two years ago following the facility merger of two nursing homes, the space was no longer needed to prepare meals and a decision was made to turn it into a space where residents can take part in different activities.

Peterson said the area will be used to, "Prepare light meals, to have games, to watch TV, we have a player piano there, we'll have a computer there shortly. It's really a wonderful room for resident activities and also for family gathering. We have a couple of lounge spaces with a electric fire place, flat wall large screen TV,  so it's really a lovely space for residents to gather with families. We didn't have that kind of dedicated activities space for our residents previously."

He says the project took about 6 months to complete and all the work was done by the in-house maintenance staff. Peterson says they were able to sell some of the kitchen items for scrap metal to purchase some of the building materials. The residential adult home in Clinton is also working on other construction projects like the expansion of its sprinkler system.
