Utica, NY (WIBX) - Rob Maciol has been sworn-in as the next Oneida County Sheriff.

The ceremony took place at the County Courthouse on Elizabeth Street in Utica. The oath was administered by County Court Judge Michael Dwyer.

Maciol says it was a long and hard fought campaign.

"In the past two months, since November, we've been working practically daily between my transition team and Sheriff Middaugh's current administration working on transition," he said. "It's been going very well. The Sheriff has been phenomenal to work with on transitional issues."

He also said the first thing on the agenda when he is the official Sheriff will be to get acclimated.

"We're going to use the first few days to basically lay out our schedules for meeting with the various staff that are in the sheriff's office, meeting with the more than 400 people that work there, and, basically, be getting our team-based audit to see who is doing what and how we can make things better for the people."

He says he will be reporting to work as the new Oneida County Sheriff at 12:01 a.m. on January 1.
