UPDATE: 09/21/2015  05:49am  Colgate University has issued a written statement which includes the following: "The Colgate community is mourning tragic news that two students, Cathryn (Carey) Depuy ’19 and Ryan Adams ’19, both of Ridgefield, Conn., died Sunday afternoon in a plane crash in Morrisville, N.Y., after taking off from Hamilton Municipal Airport."

Federal investigators are arriving this morning to investigate the fatal crash of a plane in Madison County.

A single engine Cessna crashed at approximately 12:53pm on Sunday, September 20, 2015 onto a farm field next to a heavily wooded area in Eaton, New York.

Two victims were on board.  Both were pronounced dead upon the arrival of emergency responders.

In a written release from the Madison County Sheriff's Office, officials say that the scene of the accident is approximately one-half mile off of Old County Road between Swamp Road and Old Bridge Road.

The identities of the victims will be released later this morning as families are still being notified.

In addition to the Madison County Sheriff's Office, the Morrisville Fire Department, Smithfield Fire Department, Eaton Fire Department, Madison Fire Department and Ambulance, New York State Police, New York State Police Aviation Unit, the Hamilton Police Department, Madison County Emergency Management, and SEVAC Ambulance all worked at the scene.

More details on the crash, including preliminary findings of the Federal Aviation Administration, are expected to be released later this morning.
