Malachi Richardson Drafted No. 22 Overall By Sacramento

Syracuse freshman Malachi Richardson didn't go as high as some predicted, but the standout shooting guard did make the top 25 in Thursday's first round of the 2016 NBA Draft.

Many projected Richardson, 20, would be selected in the top 20 or higher. He wound up being the 22nd overall pick, drafted by the Sacramento Kings - which made a trade with Charlotte to move up on the draft board. The Trenton, N.J. native averaged 13.4 points and 4.3 rebounds in his 37 games with the Orange. Richardson's most memorable performance was likely his 21-point second half in this year's Midwest Finals, helping 'Cuse rally from a huge deficit to knock of that region's top seed, Virginia, and advance to the Final Four.

Syracuse has now had a player drafted in the first round in five consecutive years. Richardson joins Chris McCullough (29th overall, 2015), Tyler Ennis (18th, 2014), Michael Carter-Williams (11th, 2013) and Dion Waiters (4th, 2012) and Fab Melo (22nd, 2012).
