Maloney’s Run For AG And Congress Withstands Court Challenge

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney's simultaneous campaigns for re-election and New York state attorney general have survived a court challenge.

The state Court of Appeals on Wednesday declined to hear an appeal of a lower appellate court's ruling in Maloney's favor.

The lower court earlier this month agreed with Maloney's argument that if he secures the Democratic nomination for attorney general, he can decline his nomination for his Hudson Valley congressional seat.

Plaintiffs from Maloney's district had argued he was impermissibly running for two incompatible offices at the same time.

Maloney is among four Democratic candidates for attorney general. The primary winner will face Republican attorney Keith Wofford.
