ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — The driver in a fatal motorcycle crash on an upstate New York road has accepted responsibility for the death of a 23-year-old passenger and pleaded guilty to manslaughter.

During his court appearance in Albany Wednesday, Alex Hamilton said he cannot remember the September crash, but has come to learn he's responsible for the death of Leanna Prudhomme. Hamilton now faces a 1- to 3-year minimum sentence in state prison.

Prosecutors say Hamilton was drinking the night he drove with Prudhomme on his motorcycle in Westerlo, outside Albany. Police say Prudhomme was ejected and killed after Hamilton crashed.

Prudhomme's family says they wanted to avoid a trial, but don't believe any amount of jail time for Hamilton will be enough.
