A Utica man was taken into custody after police say that he dropped drugs at a local high school.

32-Year-old Thomas Robinson of West Street was arrested after allegedly bringing a package containing "a large quantity of cocaine" to John F. Kennedy Middle School on Monday, March 23, 2015.

In a written post on the department's Facebook page Utica Police say that officers assigned to the school "were approached by a man who entered the school for the purposes of dropping off something for a student."

A witness is said to have told police that the man dropped something accidentally.  The man was then directed to the administrative office and police say the witness brought the package to officers.

After discovering the contents of the package, Utica Police say they approached Robinson who ran and tried to lock himself in a bathroom.

Soon after he was taken into custody.

Robinson was charged with misdemeanor and felony counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance.
