A Taberg man was arrested on Monday for allegedly shooting his grandson in the back with a BB gun.

According to a report from the Oneida County Sheriff's office, James Gabler, 56, of Taberg and his grandson were playing with a BB gun in the backyard. The 11-year-old set the gun down and ran off. Gabler then picked up the gun and pulled the trigger to clear it. The gun went off and the BB that was in the chamber struck the boy in the back. He was then taken to the hospital to have the BB removed from under his skin.

Gabler faces third degree assault charges. He was issued an appearance ticket to the Town of Annsville Court for a later date.
