BLOOMING GROVE, N.Y. (AP) — State police say they've charged a 37-year-old man with leaving the scene of an accident after he struck and killed a pedestrian on a Hudson Valley road last weekend.

Troopers say 56-year-old Eliu Rivera of the town of Blooming Grove in Orange County was walking on a road in his hometown around 6:30 p.m. Sunday when he was hit by a vehicle. He was taken to St. Luke's Hospital in nearby Newburgh, where he was pronounced dead.

Troopers and Blooming Grove police found the vehicle that struck Rivera at a home near the accident scene. Police say 37-year-old Richard Aiello was charged with leaving the scene of a fatal accident.

He's being held Tuesday in the county jail. It couldn't be determined if he has a lawyer.

Troopers say their investigation is continuing.
