SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — Police in Syracuse say they've charged a 24-year-old man with fatally shooting another man outside a store in city street last weekend.

Officials say Ali Muhammad, of Syracuse, was charged Wednesday with second-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon in the slaying of 19-year-old Dunier Chestnut.

Police say Chestnut was shot as he left a convenience store Sunday afternoon. He later died at a hospital.

Officials say witnesses reported seeing Muhammad running down the street after the shooting.

A motive for the shooting wasn't immediately clear. Police say Muhammad was on parole for an earlier crime.

He's being held in the Onondaga County Justice Center. It couldn't be learned from authorities if he has a lawyer.
