An Annsville man is facing numerous charges after allegedly assaulting an Oneida County Sheriff's Deputy at the Rome Wal Mart.

The Sheriff's Office say the deputy had gone into the store to speak with 21-year old Matthew Westcott, who had been seen by a store employee acting suspiciously in the parking lot.

Authorities say Westcott pulled out a machete-style knife and threatened the deputy with it. The deputy was able to get the knife away from Wescott, who then physically attacked the officer.

Westcott then allegedly pulled another knife and threw it at the deputy, striking him in the leg.  The deputy was not injured.

He was taken into custody without further incident following a short foot chase through the store.

Westcott is facing charges including attempted aggravated assault upon a police officer and menacing a police officer, resisting arrest and obstructing governmental administration.
