ARGYLE, N.Y. (AP) — State police say a 35-year-old man has died after he crashed his snowmobile on a frozen lake in upstate New York.

Troopers tell The Post-Star of Glens Falls (http://bit.ly/2iuB2JR ) that Joshua Bemis of Argyle was snowmobiling early Sunday morning on Cossayuna Lake in his Washington County hometown, located 40 miles north of Albany.

Police believe he was traveling at a high rate of speed when he hit a rock sticking out of the ice, sending his sled into trees along the shore. He was thrown from the snowmobile, which was destroyed by the impact.

Troopers say his brother was riding on a separate snowmobile when he came upon the crash scene moments after it occurred.

Bemis was taken to Glens Falls Hospital, where he was pronounced dead about 90 minutes after the crash.
