AUBURN, N.Y. (AP) — A central New York man has been sentenced to up to 24 years in prison for the alcohol-related crash that killed an Auburn teenager a month after her high school graduation.

Dain Schneider of Owasco (oh-WAHS'-koh) admitted in Cayuga (ky-YOO'-gah) County Court that he was speeding and drunk when he rammed into the back of 18-year-old Chloe Calhoun's vehicle in July. He was sentenced to prison on Tuesday.

Prosecutors say Schneider was going nearly 100 mph when he crashed his truck into Calhoun's SUV, which had just pulled out of the Tom Thumb Drive In overlooking Owasco Lake.

Schneider tearfully apologized at his sentencing. His lawyer said Schneider has been remorseful since the fatal crash.

Calhoun's aunt, speaking for the family, said the sentence won't stop the heart-wrenching pain of their loss.
