Man Gets Up To 15 Years In Prison For Fatal ATV Crash

PROVIDENCE, N.Y. (AP) — A 35-year-old Saratoga County man has been sentenced to up to 15 years in prison for an alcohol-related ATV crash that killed his passenger.

The Saratoga County District Attorney's office says Wednesday that Edward Wager of Caroga Lake was sentenced to five to 15 years for vehicular manslaughter, driving while intoxicated and other offenses.

Prosecutors say Wager was riding his all-terrain vehicle at a high rate of speed in June 2015 when he lost control. He and his passenger, 33-year-old Roxanne Opalka of Fort Johnson, were thrown from the vehicle into the side of a parked pickup truck. Opalka was pronounced dead at the scene.

Prosecutors say Wager had been drinking all day and had a blood alcohol level more than twice the legal limit.

He was convicted in July.
