MALONE, N.Y. (AP) — A 62-year-old man has pleaded not guilty to fatally shooting a man last year and burying the victim on his Adirondack property.

John Castner's public defender entered the plea for him Monday in Frank County Court in Malone.

State police charged him with second-degree murder in April after David Carpin's body was discovered buried on Castner's property in the sparsely populated town of Duane, in the northern Adirondacks.

Troopers say Carpin had been shot and killed in late November. Police found the body after receiving a search warrant.

Castner was also charged with criminal possession of a weapon, tampering with physical evidence and concealing a human corpse.

He remains in the county jail, where he's being held on $500,000 cash bail.

Police haven't said what led to the shooting.
