The man who pleaded guilty to starving a dog named Lainey to death last year will spend weekends in jail for the next six months.

26-year old Ian West was sentenced by Oneida County Court Judge Barry Donalty.

West was also placed on probation for five years.

Kim Strong, the founder of the animal rights group "Lainey's Army", tells WIBX that they're grateful that the Judge and District Attorney found it necessary to give West jail time.

Strong says DA Scott McNamara sent a message to animal abusers -- if you abuse animals he's going to go after you, and she says that was what they wanted.
