ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities say a driver involved in an alleged hit-and-run crash has been seriously injured after he crashed and his car burst into flames.

Rochester Police Capt. Mark Wiater says the incident unfolded Tuesday as the victim of the hit-and-run was trailing the suspect's vehicle. Authorities say the suspect crashed into a pole just before 10 p.m. and the car quickly became engulfed in flames.

Officials say it took a while to remove the man from the burning car. Wiater says the man is burned over "a good portion of his body" and his injuries are life-threatening.

While officers were on scene, authorities say a man with a gunshot wound to the leg approached them for help and he was taken to a hospital. Wiater says the incidents aren't related.
