ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) — Federal authorities in western New York say they've apprehended a man wanted in a fatal stabbing in Southern California last year.

The U.S. Marshals Service says its fugitive task force in Rochester received word from Marshals in San Diego that 30-year-old Calvin Hobby has family in the Rochester area and was possibly living there.

Officials say the task force eventually tracked down Hobby at Rochester General Hospital on Tuesday and took him into custody without incident. Authorities haven't said why Hobby was at the hospital.

Officials say Hobby faces charges in the stabbing death of 30-year-old Michael Nichols, of Gary, Indiana, on a San Diego street on June 19, 2016.

Hobby is being held in a Rochester jail pending extradition to California. It couldn't be learned from officials if he has a lawyer.
