WASHINGTON (AP) — The Marine Corps Reserve Center in Syracuse is getting a federal grant for $13.2 million.

The money will be used for a new one-story reserve center, an equipment storage warehouse, and a covered equipment shelter.

Government officials say the existing facility has structural problems and an inoperable fire safety system. The old building will be demolished once the new center is finished.

Also included in the federal military construction funding is $1.9 million for the Marine Corps Reserve Center in Brooklyn. It will use the money for a new electrical duct bank, cabling, and above-ground, high-voltage cable junction boxes to maximize energy efficiency.

The funding passed the Senate as part of the National Defense Authorization Act and now heads to the president for his signature.
