Councilman Joe Marino was one of the four Utica Common Council members who voted no on extending term limits on Wednesday night.

Marino has written to Mayor Robert Palmieri, strongly urging him to veto the extension of term limits.

He says the vote was not a philosophical debate on the merits of term limits, it was an outright attack on the voice of the citizens in Utica.

Marino says the City Charter was amended by way of a referendum vote to institute term limits and it passed overwhelmingly.

He says to undo that without going back to the voters is simply unjust and smacks of political corruption.
