Utica, NY (WIBX) - Utica Mayor David Roefaro is asking the Chairman of the FCC to ban corporations from displaying the term "Breaking News" in commercials.

Roefaro says people like an elderly caller to his "May I" Hotline are being duped into believing, even if it's for a second, that they're actually watching breaking news.

The Mayor says that's wrong, confusing and false advertising.

In a letter to FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski, Roefaro says the term "Breaking News" is being used by corporate America in a ploy to grab the attention of the busy channel changing consumer.
