San Francisco Giants outfield Melky Cabrera was having a breakout year - leading the majors in hits, was second in batting average and runs scored, and his standout performance in the All-Star game earned him MVP honors.

But the 28-year-old switch hitting rising star was apparently cheating.

The MLB Commissioner's Office announced Tuesday afternoon that Cabrera is banned for 50 games for testing positive for performance enhancing drugs, more specifically, testosterone.

Cabrera is in his eighth big-league season, batting .346 with 11 HR's and 60 RBI's. He spent his first five years with the Yankees, before going to Atlanta and Kansas City. The Giants acquired him from the Royals last offseason.
