Memorial Day in the Utica Area- What is Open and What is Closed?
Memorial Day this year is on Monday, May 28th. Looking for something to do, or just want to see what's going to be open? Check out our full list of what's open on Memorial Day in Central New York:
Banks: Closed.
Grocery Stores: Open but many, including Hannaford and Price Chopper, have limited hours that vary by location.
Libraries: Closed.
Liquor stores: Most are open but with limited hours.
Museums: Most museums have regular hours. For example, The Munson Williams Proctor Art Institute is closed Memorial Day, as it is every Monday, but the Children's Museum of History, Science, and Technology and Utica is open. The best bet is to check with the museum directly to see if its staff is observing Memorial Day.
Post offices: Closed.
Schools: Closed.
Stores: Open - Many have sales!

New York Mills Memorial Day Parade

Sponsored by Utica Post 229 and the City of Utica, wreath-laying Ceremonies begin at 11:00am at the Soldiers and Sailors Monument in Oneida Square. The group then moves, in the following order, to: the Vietnam Veterans Memorial on Memorial Parkway, Purple Heart Park in West Utica, and the All Veterans Memorial at Utica's Main Post Office on Pitcher Street.

Ceremonies begin at 12:00noon at Hastings Cemetery on Route 11 in Hastings. Refreshments will be served at VFW Post #8823 on Route 45 following the ceremony.

New Hartford Memorial Day Parade and Open House at the New Hartford Fire Department
The parade begins promptly at 7:00 and leaves from the New Hartford Shopping Center, proceeding north on Genesee Street, turning right onto Pearl Street, left on Sanger Avenue, and left onto Oxford Road, ending at the Fire Station.
