Frankfort, NY (WIBX) - Residents of the Frankfort-Schuyler School District have said no to a plan to merge four Herkimer County School Districts.

Frankfort voters defeated an advisory referendum yesterday 1,1,21 to 623, while residents in Ilion, Herkimer and Mohawk voted yes.

All four districts had to approve the proposal for the merger to move forward.

Herkimer Superintendent Garry Tutty says despite the vote, the school districts will continue to move forward and look at other ways to collaborate.

Tutty says they may even consider the possibility of future consolidation with the schools that are interested.

Tutty also says the great thing about the vote was the turnout and whether you like the decision or not, to have this many people vote in all four districts shows just how much they care about their schools.
