Albany, NY (WIBX) - A bill to raise the minimum wage in New York has passed in the Assembly.

Speaker Sheldon Silver will hold a news conference in Albany this morning to talk about the measure.

Other Democratic members of the Assembly will join Silver at the 11:30 event.

Senate leaders have vowed to kill the measure, but Silver says he believes the proposal may still be alive.

The minimum wage would rise from $7.25 to $8.50 an hour under the plan.
