Could mixed martial arts fighting soon be legal in New York State?

The latest debate is underway in Albany.

A state Senate committee will take up a bill this week that would legalize UFC and other MMA bouts in the state.

Previous bills promoting MMA have died in the Assembly in recent years due to a group of mostly Democratic lawmakers who have said such fights are morally reprehensible.

Supporters of the proposal say UFC bouts are now well-regulated and would be a financial boon to the state.
