Major League Baseball will not be reinstating Cincinnati Reds legend Pete Rose.

The "New York Times" reports commissioner Rob Manfred has chosen to leave Rose's lifetime ban from baseball in place.

Rose agreed in 1989 to the ban after an MLB investigation concluded he bet on games involving the Reds while managing and playing in the 1980s.

Rose was honored at the 2015 MLB All-Star Game in Cincinnati in July.

He met with Manfred in September to discuss reinstatement.
