Utica, NY (WIBX) - A doctor at the Cardiac Research Institute of the Masonic Medical Research Laboratory in Utica has been awarded a grant by the American Heart Association.

Dr. Jose Di Diego received a three year grant totaling $198,000 to examine electrocardiograms of people with Brugada Syndrome and those who experience heart attacks.

Electrocardiograms measure the electrical activity of the heart. And, Brugada Syndrome is an inherited cardiac arrhythmia syndrome that generally afflicts individuals as they reach the third and fourth decade of life.

Di Diego's grant will help provide cardiologists alternative and more effective approaches to prevent heart rhythm disorders.
