The Masonic Medical Research Lab in Utica has a new Director of Research.

Maria Kontaridis has been appointed to the post and becomes the first woman to serve in that role in the history of the 60 year old institution.

She comes to MMRL from Harvard Medical School.

"Through her extensive leadership and research expertise, Dr. Kontaridis' vision will position the Masonic Medical research Laboratory as one of the top cardiac research centers in the county and around the world." said David Schneeweiss, President of the MMRL Board of Directors.

Kontaridis will take over day-to-day operations in January.
