The Mohawk Valley Community Action Agency will get just over $1.4 million in funding through the State Division of Homes and Community Renewal's Weatherization Assistance Program.

Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi announced the funding.

Brindisi says the weatherization program will help reduce heating season utility bills for eligible Mohawk Valley families and senior citizens.

Brindisi said: “Mohawk Valley Community Action is known for its weatherization programs that can help families and senior citizens slash an average of one-fifth of their utility bills.  Weatherization not only cuts costs, but it reduces energy use, and helps the environment.  When homes are audited for this program, they also are checked for mold, carbon monoxide, and other potential hazards.  This program helps keep families in their homes in a cleaner, safer environment, and significantly reduces household expenses.”

A total of $59 million is being provided to help about 9,200 households statewide.
