The annual "Eve of Destruction" event at Lebanon Valley Speedway proved to be fatal for one driver.

New York State Police were called to the racing venue on Tuesday, June 30, 2014 to report an accident on the track.

At approximately 10:00pm 43-year-old Shawn J. Rivers of Castleton was racing a Winnebago motorhome when 34-year-old Frank J. Sorrento, another driver on the track, tried to disable Rivers' vehicle.  Sorrento hit Rivers' vehicle, as permitted in the rules of the race and event, and caused the motorhome to roll over.

The roof of Rivers' vehicle collapsed and Rivers was trapped inside.

According to a written released from New York State Police (NYSP), "Rivers was extricated from the demolished motorhome by Lebanon Valley Track EMS and racetrack officials. He was transported to Albany Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased.  The investigation is continuing."

A banner on the Lebanon Valley Speedway's website advertised that the "Eve of Detruction" features a "school bus race, gauntlet race, rollover contest, reverse race, hood and trunk race, trailer race, extreme stunts, and much more."

The NYSP has confirmed that they will be working with Columbia County District Attorney Paul Czajka during the investigation, but said that there does not appear to be any criminal liability in the case.
