DRYDEN, N.Y. (AP) — Mourners of an 11-year-old central New York girl who died after she was struck by a motorist last week had their cars broken into while attending a gathering following her funeral.

The Tompkins County Sheriff's Office is investigating several break-ins that occurred immediately following the funeral of Kaylee Wacht last Saturday afternoon.

Kimberly Wacht, Kaylee's mother, says at least four vehicles parked at the VFW hall in Dryden were broken into while family and friends were at a luncheon.

Car windows were smashed and purses were stolen, including one that contained a family member's Christmas money and another with approximately $700 in donations for Wacht's immediate family.

Wacht was killed Dec. 4 when she and 14-year-old Kristin Shevalier were hit by a pickup truck while walking on an unlit road.
