RAY BROOK, N.Y. (AP) — The snowmobiling season is officially closed in the Adirondacks.

The Department of Environmental Conservation says it has closed all snowmobile trails and seasonal access roads on Forest Preserve land in the North Country because of a lack of snow.

Seasonal roads will be reopened after spring maintenance is finished and the roads are dry enough to support traffic. The dirt roads become badly rutted if they're driven on during mud season.

For hikers, DEC advises that many trails are icy and require trail crampons for safety. There's also a significant amount of blowdown from recent high winds, and some trails may be blocked by fallen trees and branches.
