Utica, NY (WIBX) - Students at Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute are encouraging the community to register and vote in the upcoming election.

During an event held earlier today at the school's Student Center, members of the League of Women Voters helped people register for the November 6 election.

Communication Design students also displayed posters they created in their Visual Communications class.

Christian Martinez' poster displayed the two major parties' mascots as boxers. He talked about the inspiration behind his design.

"Whenever I watched the debates when I was younger with my parents, or whenever I hear about politics, I always think of it more like a circus almost," Martinez said. "[It's] like an old, classic boxing match, really. Especially around this time with the debates."

Cynthia Koren is an associate professor of Communication Design at MWPAI. She said her goal was to not only get her students involved in the electoral process, but to show them how design influences people.

"What I really want to do is make sure these kids understand how typography, color and visual hierarchy play an important role in communication design," Koren said."

All of the posters are available for download and are meant for public use. For a link to all of the designs, click here.
