Mohawk Valley Community College will get a nearly $1.1 million federal grant to provide academic and skills training in construction and other in-demand occupations to at-risk 16 to 24 year olds.

Congressman Richard Hanna says the money comes from the U.S Department of Labor's Youth Build Program.

“All people should have an equal chance to reach their full potential and work toward success in life,” Rep. Hanna said. “Learning useful skills – like the construction trades – provides so many in our community with a stable, middle class life. It will also help nationwide to keep the U.S. competitive in a global economy.”

MVCC President Randall VanWagoner says the college will train about 25 students every six months through the program.
