Utica, NY (WIBX) - Mohawk Valley Community College is partnering with the American Red Cross for a good cause.

This Thursday, from 10 to 5, the college will hold a holiday blood drive in the Alumni College Center on its Utica campus.

Executive Director of Institutional Advancement at the college, Frank DuRoss, says giving blood is especially important now.

"What better gift to give than something that you can't buy," DuRoss said. "You know, one unit of blood can save or sustain three different people. During the holidays, there's a lot of need for blood, due to accidents and various things. It's a great gift. It doesn't cost any money, it takes about an hour of someone's time."

DuRoss says the goal is to collect 100 units. Most people 17 years and older may donate.
