The Mohawk Valley Resource Center for Refugees has received nearly $20,000 in funding from the Community Foundation of Herkimer and Oneida Counties for a renovation project.

The funding will help the Resource Center create a Welcome and Opportunity Center in its new building at 201 Bleecker Street in Utica.

The funds will be used to install new carpeting.  Other renovations will include the creation of a Welcome Center on the first floor, a student lounge and fully equipped training center on the lower level of the building, ADA compliant bathrooms and the addition of an elevator.

The project is part of the agency's effort to expand services that support immigrants in the Mohawk Valley.

MVRCR Executive Director Shelly Callahan recognized the significant contribution in a statement, "We truly appreciate The Community Foundation for their unwavering support of MVRCR as we strive to create opportunities to engage refugees and immigrants who contribute to the economy and cultural vibrancy of the city and region."
