Health care professionals from around the Utica Rome area attended an 'End of Life Care Program at the Yahnundasis Golf Club last night to talk about the importance of having early discussions with families to make sure everyone has a health care proxy.

The program focused on 'MOLST' - or Medical Orders for Life-Sustaining Treatment an end of life care transitions program that encourages discussion of goals for care and medical decision making for seriously ill patients.

"It's about getting people to be able to have these tough conversations to make sure their well informed, so that we want patients and families to understand it, we want our physicians and nurses and social workers to be able to understand it together," said Vice President Medical Director For Excellus Blue Cross Blue Shield Dr. Patricia Bomba.
